International Day of Education: Ghana is far below the focus – Educationist

On December 3, 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for bringing global peace and sustainable development.

The 2020 Theme: ‘Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace,’ highlights the integrated nature of education, its humanistic aims, as well as its centrality to our collective development ambitions.
Mr. John Owusu, an educationist speaking on Silver 98.3 FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show with Nana Ampratwum said Ghana has been doing well in terms of universal free education policy but the purpose and focus which is to create peace and prosperity has been lacking.
“We commemorate this International Day of Education every year but what we are seeking is how education is empowering the people. Education must prepare people to preserve the chronics.” Mr. Owusu said.
“Education must build the people to share prosperity and fostering peace. And since we have not been able to achieve these objectives, I must say we are no near the focus.” He continued.
